There is a little more than 24 hours left in Chelsea to finalize any transfer transaction before closing the window before the summer.
Until now, the Blues have brought Christian Pulisic and Gonzalo Higuain to the club this month, although the former has been loaned to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season.
The departure of Cesc Fabregas in Monaco earlier this month has left the Blues short in the middle of the field and this is an area that Maurizio Sarri is seeking to strengthen before the deadline.
Chelsea is certainly no stranger to the January window and they have already spent a lot of money in recent years.
While David Luiz and Gary Cahill proved to be wise acquisitions, Juan Cuadrado, Fernando Torres and Ricardo Quaresma's arrivals did not go as planned.
Here are some of the missed transfers from Chelsea in the last 15 years.
Jiri Jarosik
Jose Mourinho added to his team with the arrival of Jarosik in January 2005 while he was looking to help Chelsea continue its momentum and win its first league title in 50 years.
Enlisted to cover the midfield, the player started the league final against Liverpool before winning a Premier League medal in May after playing enough matches.
That's about all for the West-London Czech who will join Birmingham City on loan the following season before moving to Celtic with a permanent contract in 2006.
Franco Di Santo
Di Santo arrived in Chelsea 11 years ago as part of a 3.4 million pound transaction on the Chilean side Audax Italiano.
Impressive for the reserves with 12 goals in eight games after his arrival, it is not until the following season that he finally appears for the first team.
The Argentinian made 16 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea in 2008/09 but he joined Wigan Athletic in 2010 after being loaned the previous year to Blackburn.
Ricardo Quaresma
The Portuguese international made a name for himself when he was young when he decided to move to Barcelona in 2003 after being noticed at Sporting Lisbon.
However, his transfer to Nou camp did not work out as planned and he returned to his home country in Porto after refusing to play for the Spanish giants while Frank Rijkaard remained at the helm.
Joining Inter Milan in a big contract in September 2008, the winger was moving again a few months later while he was heading to Stamford Bridge.
He made only five appearances during his stay in the capital, his only debut being his 0-0 draw against Hull City.
Fernando Torres
Chelsea hit the headlines at the transfer deadline in 2011 after breaking the British transfer record to sign the contract with Torres from Liverpool for a £ 50 million deal.
Having scored goals to have fun at Anfield after his move from Atletico Madrid in 2007, the history of the Spanish at SW6 was quite different.
It took 14 games for the player to finally score his first goal at Chelsea and he has only 11 in all competitions the following season.
However, he scored the primary goal in Barcelona as the Blues sealed an unlikely spot in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
Although he can not repeat his exploits in Liverpool in the capital, he will still be remembered for the night at Camp Nou in April 2012.
Kenneth Omeruo
The Nigerian arrived in Chelsea in January 2012 after the Blues reached an agreement with the Belgian club Standard Liege.
Immediately sent to the Eredivisie ADO Den Haag club for the rest of the campaign, the defender was loaned to various clubs across Europe.
Currently playing for Leganes in Spain, the 25-year-old is still waiting to make his debut at Chelsea seven years after his move.
Wallace
Another player who did not play for Chelsea during his visit to the club after his arrival from Fluminense.
Borrowed at Inter Milan because of work permit problems, the Brazilian played only four matches with the Italian giants before being loaned to Vitesse Arnhem, Carpi and Gremio.
He finally left Chelsea this summer, after the club decided, unsurprisingly, not to extend his contract.
Juan Cuadrado
Attracting attention with fine performances for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup, Cuadrado was signed by Mourinho de la Fiorentina a few months later.
At £ 23.3m, Mohamed Salah, who joined Chelsea 12 months earlier, borrowed in the opposite direction.
The Colombian really struggled during his first few months in London and returned to Italy in August 2015 after joining Juventus on a one – year loan contract.
The 30-year-old remains in Turin and has become a key player in the Bianconeri after his permanent move in May 2017.
Matt Miazga
Chelsea left the United States three years ago to sign the Red Bulls New York defender.
Making his league debut in the 4-0 win at Aston Villa in April 2016, the American has not been seen under a Chelsea jersey since his replacement at halftime against Swansea at the next match.
Recalled by the Blues last week after barely playing in Nantes, he will spend the rest of the season on loan with Reading, the side of the Championship.
