Japan registers a current account surplus of 1.59tn yen in May

TOKYO (Kyodo) – Japan recorded a current account surplus of 1.59 trillion yen ($ 14.65 billion) in May, marking the 59th consecutive month of black ink, according to government data released on Monday.

According to a preliminary report released by the Ministry of Finance, the country had a 650.9 billion yen deficit on trade in goods and a trade surplus of 137.2 billion yen.

Primary incomes, which reflect returns on investment abroad, recorded a surplus of 2.26 billion yen.
