Japanese spacecraft lands on asteroids

The Japanese space probe "Hayabusa 2" probably landed briefly on the asteroid Ryugu. "It seems that the landing has been successful," said today at the AFP news agency, a spokeswoman for the Japanese space agency Jaxa. A final confirmation is still pending. Incoming data should be further evaluated.

"Hayabusa 2" dropped the Franco-German fly "Mascot" on the asteroid 300 million kilometers from Earth last October. The LG then collected data for about 17 hours. The German-French-Japanese mission is to provide new information on the genesis of our solar system, as well as on the possibility of repelling an asteroid in the event of a collision with it.

"Hayabusa 2" had to take samples from the surface during its very brief landing on Friday, then return to orbit around the comet. If the sample collection is successful, will be certain in a few days.
