TOKYO (Kyodo) – A recently returned Japanese woman from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been tested in a medical facility in Tokyo for a possible Ebola infection, Health Ministry said Sunday.
The 70-year-old woman from Saitama prefecture was hospitalized at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases after developing a high fever on Saturday, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said.
While confirmation of her diagnosis and if she is infected with the virus, which can be fatal if she is not treated, is not yet available, she has been tested positive at the clinic. 39, influenza, the ministry said.
She had no contact with people infected with the Ebola virus during her stay in Congo, the paper said.
The government has set up a liaison unit in the Prime Minister's office to collect information on this subject.
