Jennifer Aniston "grieved for Brad Pitt as he was dead" after the revelation of Angelina's case

Following her separation from Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston revealed that she had gone through a period of "mourning".

The former Friends star was so shocked by her affair with actress Angelina Jolie and by the breakdown of their marriage that followed, it was felt that Brad was dead.

Jennifer and Brad's marriage ended in 2005, after five years of marriage, and in her first interview in the weeks following the split, Jen revealed her difficulties in coping early.

There were cracks in the relationship. Brad would apparently have been upset that Jennifer signed up for a final series of the hit comedy Friends.

It was during the shooting of the finale that Brad met Angelina on the film set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which would eventually tear her marriage to Jennifer.

Sending to Vanity Fair in the weeks following the confirmation of the separation, Jennifer admitted that she was in "a long period of mourning."

She revealed, "There are many stages in mourning, it's sad, something is coming to an end, opening in a sense an opening you're open to feeling.

"When you try to avoid the pain, it creates greater pain."

Jennifer also revealed the difficulty of having such a high level separation.

"I am a human being, I have a human experience in front of the world, I wish it was not in front of the world."

At the time, Jennifer had trouble understanding why the split had occurred and had to believe that it was her fate, otherwise it would be too difficult to understand.

The two men officially divorced on October 2, 2005.
