Manchester United star Jesse Lingard revealed exactly where his hand celebration, the J-L brand, was coming from.

England is known for its gesture when it discovers the back of the net – and it spotted the exact moment when the celebration was born.

He revealed how the help of his teammate Marcus Rashford had seen him coming with the hand signal, which fans have been slow to recognize as his initials.

He told ESPN FC: "Before a game against West Brom, Marcus and I [Rashford] were in the room the night before, thinking about the kind of handmade celebrations we could do.

Lingard organized the celebration before a match in West Brom in December 2017

"We were trying a lot of things and I was trying to make a J and an L.

"I said that if I scored, I would do it and obviously, I scored that day and I did it but the people were a bit like:" That's it what does it do? "

"Nobody really knew what it was about and then people learned that it was a J and an L."

Lingard used the celebration several times, especially in England

Lingard also revealed how he handled the criticism directed at him for his off-road activities.

He said: "When I was younger, I often blamed myself for doing things off the field, but at the end of the day, I was just me. not to impress anyone.

"I was just myself and that's the main reason why I started using this slogan [Be Yourself] and put it in a clothing brand.

Lingard is about to return after a hamstring injury

"It's good to get the message out to people, somebody may want to speak up and maybe be scared, et cetera, so it's more about people being themselves and defending that. they know. "

The 26-year-old missed United's final matches because of a thigh injury suffered against Liverpool on February 24, but he is approaching a first-team return.
