London will become the first European destination served by the low-cost airline JetBlue.

The carrier announced that it would launch daily flights between New York and Boston and London in 2021.

JetBlue President Joanna Geraghty said: "Twenty years ago, our founders used a simple formula to choose a new market: it must have been too expensive, less well served, or both.

"London is the largest metro area in JetBlue that does not yet serve Boston and New York and we could not be more excited to change that in the years to come.

JetBlue plans to use the Airbus A321-LR's wider reach jets to connect London to Boston and New York because the new European-made aircraft can easily cross the Atlantic without have to refuel

"The prices charged today by the airlines on these routes, especially on premium connections, are sufficient to make you blush."

It is unclear how much the flights will cost, but comparisons with other major airlines on current routes show that it is likely to be very cheap.

For example, a one-way ticket between New York (JFK) and Atlanta, Georgia, from JetBlue on May 5th costs only $ 88.

United Airlines offers the same trip at $ 137, Delta at $ 108 and American Airlines at $ 95.

A flight between Mexico City and New York (JFK) on June 7th costs only $ 167. Delta Airlines will offer the same flight for $ 190.

In addition to offering cheap flights, JetBlue offers the largest legroom clearance for all US carriers in economy, at 34 inches.

Delta offers 32 inches, United Airlines 30 inches and Spirit Airlines give a lean 28 inches.

The new routes will be served by an Airbus A321LR single-aisle aircraft offering a version of the premium JetBlue cabin.

Ms. Geraghty said: "The Mint's success in reducing exorbitant air fares charged by our competitors, stimulating new demand and forcing entrenched carriers to improve their game, explains, In our opinion, JetBlue's next natural market in London will succeed and have a positive impact on consumers. & # 39;

JetBlue "evaluates" the London airports that it will use.

The airline currently operates on average more than 1,000 flights a day to destinations in the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America.
