Police in the eastern region arrested a 19-year-old JHS student who allegedly abducted a 20-year-old student colleague from Akyem Manso.

The victim, 20-year-old Georgina Ama Amenyo, reportedly left her parents' home, Anamase, near Achiase on January 12, but would not have returned.

Police announced the detention on Sunday. On the same day, the people of Sekondi-Takoradi, in the western region and surrounding areas, organized a large popular vigil for three missing young women who were reported abducted last year and who were not killed. have not been found yet.

In the latter case, a statement signed by the Regional Police's public relations officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, stated that the victim's mother, Esther Brady, contacted the victim's boyfriend, Joseph Prah, in Akim. Manso, who admitted to having hosted Georgina, but only for a day. he claimed that she had left home the next day.

According to the police, the mother, unconvinced by Joseph's claims, filed a complaint with them for arrest on January 28, 2019. The young woman has still not been found, police said.

When arrested, the suspect denied knowing of Georgina's whereabouts, insisting that he saw her leave the day after his stay at home.

The police statement indicated a brbadier; a cover and a pair of shoes belonging to Georgina were recovered in the suspect's room during a search.

The suspect has since been placed in custody by Akim Swedru district court pending further investigations.
