The 17-year-old student from Nungua Krowor 2 (JHS) High School in the Greater Accra region is battling the Nungua Police Command for instigating a gang to attack his teacher.
The attack that happened last Monday forced teachers in the group of schools to abandon the classroom to seek justice for their assaulted colleague.
Municipal Director General (MCE) for the Krowor, Joshua Nii Bortey in a Citi News the interview indicated that the minor had been arrested by police to assist with investigations.
“The boy was arrested, he is currently in custody. He is juvenile but brought in a gang to commit the crime. The purpose of his arrest is to assist with investigations. ”
The student led 15 other men from Nungua to beat math teacher on February 22, 2021.
The teacher sustained a head injury and was wearing a blood soaked shirt when he reported the incident to police.
He was accompanied by Roger Asempa, the director of the school.
A joint stakeholder meeting comprising the principal, teachers and students of the school, regional and municipal directors of education, the commander of the Nungua district police and the deputy of Krowor, among others, was held. took place the next day following the incident.
Speaker after speaker condemned the incident and pledged to help police track down suspects.
The teachers had threatened to withdraw their services due to the incident but overturned their decision after the stakeholder meeting. They will resume their academic work next Monday.
At the same time, the MCE assured the teachers of the school of the Municipality’s commitment to ensure their safety.
“Police and other city officials have met with teachers and assured them of their safety,” MCE Joshua Nii Bortey said.
