JHS Student Wins National Quran Recitation Contest

A senior high school sophomore from the ASWAJ Islamic Academy of Techiman Municipality, in the Bono-East area, on Sunday defeated another 40 candidates to win the 2019 edition of the completion the recitation of the Koran by the National Twellium.

The competition was held on the campus of the University of Professional Studies in Accra.

Master Luqman Swallah received an all expenses paid trip to Mecca in Saudi Arabia to be part of the pilgrimage of the Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city this year.

Luqman Swallah also received 20,000 GH ¢ and a Nasco tablet to allow him to continue memorizing the Qur'an.

Again, he had products from Twellium Industry Ghana Limited.

Deputy Imam Ahlusuna Wal Jama'Sheikh Muhammed Kamil Muhammed, Dr. Muhammed Bashir Adam, Lecturer in the Arab Department of the University of Ghana, Legon, and Sheikh Muhammed Bashir Suleman Addo, Associate Professor at the Institute Islamic studies Nima.

Participants were selected from the 16 regions of the country. After being selected, the potential winners were then selected to be part of the final competition.

The physically disabled 17-year-old defied his handicap and faced the 40 valid competitors in eight categories to win the Ultimate Award.

The impressive performances of Master Luqman Swallah drew the admiration of the judges, which led President Dawud Mohammed Tindawu to prophesy of his future.

"It's not everyone who can recite how this was revealed," said Dawud Mohammed Tindawu.

He noted that the boy's ability to answer all 10 questions indicates that he has a future and will become an imam to lead his people.

Dawud Mohammed Tindawu, director general of the Qur'anic Affairs Administration in Ghana, said his organization would contact its partners for a fellowship to continue their studies.

For his part, Master Luqman Swallah expressed his thanks to the leadership of the Twellium Foundation for the opportunity that led him to be the first of his family to perform a Hajj.

Luqman, visibly elated, said he belonged to a poor family. No family member went to play the Haj before. He had never thought that he would ever have an opportunity to go to Mecca to perform Hajj.

Some participants received a cash reward while others returned home with attractive consolation prizes.
