Eddie Izzard defended JK Rowling’s position on transgender issues.
Harry Potter author Rowling, 55, has been criticized for her comments on gender identity, but vehemently denies she is transphobic.
Izzard, 58, recently made headlines when called “her / her” by appearing on a TV show.
The star told the Daily Telegraph: “I don’t think JK Rowling is transphobic. I think we need to look at the things she wrote about in her blog.
“Women have lived through such hell throughout history. Trans people have also been invisible.
“I hate the idea of us fighting among ourselves, but it’s not going to be sorted with the wave of a wand.
“I don’t have all the answers. If people don’t agree with me, okay – but why are we going through the hell about it?
Izzard has been called “her / her” in Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist Of The Year series.
“I didn’t push for it (on the program). This is not the big deal. I’ve been out for 35 years, ”the comic said.
“When I was called ‘she’ while earning my honorary degree in Swansea (in 2019), no one gave a monkey….
“If they call me ‘she’ and ‘she’ that’s great – or ‘him’ and ‘him’, I don’t mind. My name is Eddie, that covers it all. I am gender fluid. “
