Joao Felix scout report: Portugal star fails to shine in international debut

Portugal has offered teenager Joao Felix her international debut in the Nations League semi-finals against Switzerland on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old Benfica star, closely watched by some of Europe's leading clubs, teamed with 34-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo in attack.

Potential contenders in the Premier League, including Manchester United and Manchester City, would likely have closely watched his performances for the defending European champions.

Felix, however, was not able to score with a memorable performance and eventually had a hard time making an impact.

The 120 million pound striker had a glorious chance of scoring a first goal after Ronaldo played it with a superb deep pbad.

But when Ricardo Rodriguez's goal of putting him to the test from behind was defeated by a half-time goal, he wasted his effort.

It was about to score. The striker had a difficult night in Porto and was eventually replaced by Goncalo Guedes in the 70th minute.

While Felix, who is also the target of Real Madrid, may have experienced a disappointing evening, he would have been delighted to see his country finish 3-1 with his hat-trick.

The superstar striker scored on a 25-yard free kick early in the first period, leaving Yann Sommer misplaced, but the goalkeeper might have had to do better.

Swiss defender Rodriguez has equalized in controversial circumstances since the referee initially awarded a penalty kick to hosts.

But Portugal regained their lead two minutes from the end after Ronaldo shot Sommer after 12 yards.

And the star of Juventus completed his hat trick after recovering the ball on the edge of the area before returning home in the lower corner.
