20th Century Studios unveils new Ridley Scott’s music video The last duel see Jodie Comer’s character confront Matt Damon after realizing she could be burned alive. The adaptation of Scott by Eric Jager The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Fighting Trials in Medieval France is based in part on the last sanctioned duel in France in the 14th century. This is the first of two films the 83-year-old director is releasing this year with Gucci House.
The last duel follows Norman knight Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon), who challenges his squire, Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), to a combat trial after his wife, Marguerite (Comer) accuses Le Gris of raping her, a charge Gray firmly asserts is wrong. In addition to being a fight to the death, if Carrouges loses, Marguerite will be burned alive as a punishment for her false accusation. The last duel was written by Ben Affleck (who also plays the role of Count Pierre d’Alençon), Damon and Nicole Holofcener. To properly explore the ideas of the film, Affleck and Damon would have written the male point of view and Holofcener would have written the female point of view.
With less than a month to go until the film’s release, 20th Century Studios has shared a new clip from The last duel. The video center is on Marguerite de Comer as she confronts her husband after realizing she could be burned alive. Check out the clip below:

The last duel endured several months of disruption due to COVID-19 but eventually finished filming late last year. Audiences expect the film to be Scott’s first medieval drama since 2005 Kingdom of paradise, Damon and Affleck’s first reunion as screenwriters since Goodwill hunting, and the first screen appearance of the latter pair since Jay and Silent Bob strike back (2001). Especially in 2021, many are curious to see how The last duel will treat his subject through a contemporary lens.
The last duel does not focus on a particular character because it is said to be told with a Rashomon-esque rotation between perspectives. That being said, the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month, and the first reviews for The last duel seem divided. Either way, Comer’s performance in The last duel seems to be a tour de force. The winner of an Emmy Kill Eve the actress had a great year with the success of free guy and the next movie just might set her up for awards season. The public will see if this is the case when it releases in the United States on October 15.
