Joe Cole think Liverpool may regret not signing this summer

Joe Cole think Liverpool might regret not having signed at least one big name this summer.

The Reds have recruited young Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg in the offseason, while Jurgen Klopp looks to the future.

But Cole believes the Reds must continue to spend if they want to follow Manchester City after the Premier League champions have spent more than 60 million pounds against midfielder Rodri.

Jurgen Klopp did an excellent job. For him, he takes the team to the next level – he did a great job. It's great for the club and for the league – everyone likes it.

"But I think he'll be disappointed not to have recruited major recruits to complete his team.If they want to compete with Man City, they have to get going and leave.

"They were so close last year and Man City has grown stronger, he's obviously happy with his players and he's going to bring back Lallana and Oxlade-Chamberlain this year.

"But I think they have to go back there if they want to follow Man City because they seem relentless at the moment."

Liverpool had an indifferent preseason, suffering defeats in Naples, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund during the summer.

And although Cole admits that friendly defeats are not as painful as reality, the former Red says they should not be left out altogether.

"I think it has effects," he added. "But until you get to the first three or four games, you do not really know where you are.

"You do not play these games and you want to lose, of course there's something wrong, if you lose pre-season games it will be a bit of a hbadle, but it's nothing less than to lose a real match. "

"They open the season on Friday night and they have to keep going, and if I'm Liverpool manager, I think we just won the Champions League, what can we do now?"

"I have the impression that they needed something else to keep going, bringing a big name out the door.

"Sign the goalkeeper [Alisson] and Van Dijk last summer was logical. If you look at the team now, it's not so black and white as it should be.

"It's a great team, they are champions of Europe, there are players in all positions who do what Klopp wants them to do."

"The midfielder is very physical, they can play in the manner of Klopp.I do not think there is a single position, he just needs a little bit of star dust. A player who can come play a few positions. "

"They are equipped and they will be up there without a doubt, they are fantastic and are credited to the manager.

"But to compete with Man City, they have to keep spending, I would be disappointed not to add more candidates."
