Joe Willock signed a six-year contract with Newcastle United ahead of his departure from Arsenal.

Athleticism understands that costs of over £ 20million have been agreed for the 21-year-old midfielder, who travels to Newcastle today and is expected to undergo a medical exam on Friday morning.

Willock has been Newcastle’s No.1 target throughout the transfer window and is set to become Steve Bruce’s first senior signing this summer.

Willock, who scored eight goals on Tyneside on a successful loan spell in the second half of last season, has been on the sidelines in the pre-season at Arsenal while Mikel Arteta weighed his options.

But, with opportunities expected to be limited in north London, Willock is set to leave the club he has been in since he was a schoolboy and return to Newcastle, where he will be an almost guaranteed start.
