Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has said he will continue to advise all his players to boycott social media following the abuse received by new signing Joe Willock.
Willock recently completed a permanent move from Arsenal to Newcastle for £ 25million after a successful loan from St James’ Park last season.
The 22-year-old midfielder revealed on Thursday that he is considering quitting social media due to the racist abuse he suffers on a daily basis.
Bruce said, “How many times have I told players that they should avoid it? It’s the sad part of modern society we live in right now.
“How people think they have the right to abuse people… in my opinion, it’s a dark place, it’s social media.

“People should be held accountable for what they write and for the advice I give them [players] it’s all about staying out of it.
“There are some gains to that, I guess, but there is more to the other side, which I have certainly witnessed.
“Some of the things that have been written about me are absolutely shameful and ridiculous.
“So a young boy who gets it, or a young girl – for me he has to be better supervised.”
Bruce has said Willock will be included in his squad for Saturday’s Premier League game at Aston Villa despite a lack of football during the preseason.
The Magpies boss did not rule out signing a new defender ahead of the transfer window next week and said the absence of goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka remained a concern.
Freddie Woodman made his club debut in last Sunday’s 4-2 home loss to West Ham, with compatriot Mark Gillespie on the bench.
“It’s not great when you’re having trouble with your two more experienced ones,” Bruce said. “Unfortunately, Martin, the (foot) injury he suffered has become infected, which will set him back a few weeks and Karl still hasn’t gotten over Covid. Those two are still a long way off.”

Darlow spent time in the hospital after testing positive for coronavirus and Bruce said he urged all of his players to get vaccinated.
“It’s fair to say that we have a lot of players who didn’t have the jab and I always said it was their prerogative,” said the Magpies manager.
“We can only follow the advice we all received from Premier League managers about a week ago.
“It is vital that people get bitten and there are statistics to go with it. A quarter of those hospitalized right now are under 30, simply because they don’t have the bites.
“We’ve had a couple of our players who are really, really sick. Karl wants him there. He hasn’t had any symptoms and within 24-48 hours he was in the hospital. My advice is to get away. sting. “
Bruce has confirmed he will be without midfielder Jonjo Shelvey against Villa due to a new calf injury.
