Englishman Jonny Bairstow crushed 114 of 56 balls to help Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Royal Challengers in Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

The first century IPL of Bairstow was part of a 185-point opening stand – a competition record – with David Warner, who hit 100 balls on 55 balls.

The two men helped their team reach 231-2 – while they were winning by 118 points.

Bangalore lost his captain Virat Kohli (three) and the AB de Villiers (one) at a lower cost since they were all equal 113.

Playmaker Mohammad Nabi took the match 4-11 and beat Moeen Ali for just two minutes as the English multisport player enjoyed contrasting fortunes with his compatriot Bairstow.

Former British captain Michael Vaughan congratulated Bairstow for his 114

Kohli had won the draw and Bairstow, with Australian Warner, quickly made him regret his decision.

The two men entered into a partnership for the third consecutive century, Bairstow scoring seven six and twelve ovens at a strike rate of 203.57 in his innings.

He shares a hug with Warner, which he should face when England will face Australia in the ashes this summer, while he was celebrating his century.

"I'm absolutely cooked," Bairstow said after his heats.

"It was fantastic to fight in the middle with him."

The 29-year-old is only the third of the IPL by an English player and also the highest, beating Kevin Pietersen and Ben Stokes (both 103 non-absentees).

Warner, who ended his ban on hitting the ball on the Australian tour of South Africa on March 28, added: "These 12 months have served me well, I feel refreshed."
