Liverpool has once again suffered from motion sickness while it was defeated by a mediocre first half in Paris.
But the defeat of PSG – the third home in the Champions League this season – surprisingly surprises their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition. The Reds were defeated by a blitz in the first half of the three revered defenders of Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani. The Brazilian scored a goal in the counterattack, after left-back Juan Bernat opened the scoring.
A penalty from James Milner just before half-time could not bring Liverpool back into the match, but a good second half performance, when the French were really shaken, would give them hope to continue to progress.
Captain Jordan Henderson said, "We are disappointed. We think we are good enough to come here and win. It was not our night at the end but we tried to keep pushing for the equalizer.
"We continued and continued to fight and now we just have to keep our hopes alive with a win at Anfield.
"We just need to get through this match against Naples now. He's still in our hands, I guess. "
Marco Verratti was fortunate enough to miss a red card for Joe Gomez, but Henderson said: "It was quite high, but I'm not really sure. For the moment, that's 39 is fast and it's football, I'm sure we've managed a few too.
"We now have another great match at Anfield and we can get through and for the next round."
Defeat means that they have to defeat Naples, but if their form on the outside has been shocking in Europe this season, they have seemed powerful and domineering at home.
It's certainly not beyond Jurgen Klopp's team, but he will miss the wasting of the second-half dominance in this match when they had so many moments that would have had to bring an equalizer.
And more particularly, he will curse a shocking overture when his team conceded after just 13 minutes and gave the initiative to a PSG team that needs little encouragement.
