Jose Mourinho admitted that Spurs were “sad” and had “problems” after their poor loss to Brighton.
A 1-0 defeat doomed Mourinho’s side to successive Premier League defeats in four days after Leandro Trossard’s opening opener.
Spurs have now won just twice in nine league appearances to sit 11 points behind leaders Manchester City.
Mourinho missed injured skipper Harry Kane and deputy Gareth Bale was replaced after 61 minutes.
Mourinho said: “We didn’t start well and after conceding the goal nothing improved.
“My feeling was that the team was a little sad. The performance wasn’t very good, but a win doesn’t put me in heaven and a loss doesn’t put me in hell.
“We are now in a difficult period with results, injuries and self-esteem.
“When we concede a goal immediately at the start, I think the team immediately struggled.
“But I saw a different team with a different spirit in the second half.
“Sooner or later we will overcome these problems.”
Brighton’s victory was his first home win in 15 Premier League games at Amex Stadium since defeating Arsenal in June 2020 – 225 days ago.
He has secured seven points in their last three league games and leaves Albion seven points above the drop zone.
It was fully deserved as Pascal Gross also hit the post and Aaron Connolly had a tie-in shot from Toby Alderweireld late.
Match winner Trossard said: “We deserved it, it feels good.
“It’s special for us. We had a lot of chances. “
Potter, whose team kept three consecutive clean sheets in the top flight, said: “I thought from the start of the game that we were brave, aggressive and scored a very nice goal.
“We have reduced the opposition to not too much.
“I’m delighted for all three points, but we had to fight for them and we will have to fight for all three points by the end of the season.
“I don’t have to answer a little about our home form so that’s good too.
Spurs did not include defender Serge Aurier in their squad as the defender recently stormed.
