This week, Cech announced that he would retire at the end of the season with Arsenal after an incredible career.

Cech arrived in English football in 2004 when he joined Chelsea before Mourinho replaced Claudio Ranieri as manager.

Chelsea's number one at the time was Carlo Cudicini, who was also a fan favorite of Stamford Bridge.

But Mourinho chose Cech as the first-choice goalkeeper and kept a record of 21 league titles that season, winning the title.

In his 333 league appearances for Chelsea, Cech kept 162 white sheets and won four league titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League in 2012.

Speaking in an interview with beIN SPORTS, Mourinho praised Cech's quality and professionalism when they spent time together.

"Petr Cech was a kid. I did not buy it. When I arrived in Chelsea, Chelsea had already made the decision to buy it in 2004, "said Mourinho.

"But when I came to Chelsea, he was a 20-year-old. The goalkeeper was Carlo Cudicini and the previous season he was the player of the season.

"The first game of the season was Chelsea against Manchester United. And I decided to leave the player of the season aside and play a child that nobody could even pronounce his name.

"Petr Cech was pretty hard to say. I gave the start to this young boy. After that, everything was about him.

"My influence was nil, everything concerned him, a fantastic professional, a goalkeeper with incredible potential.

"What happened to him after the dramatic situation on the ground? Only him, to recover and play on goal with this iconic helmet. The helmet was there not because it was nice.

"It was there because it was necessary. Absolutely amazing. I had it in a period where again, When I came back to Chelsea, I had a young guardian.

"I got Courtois and I told Petr, now you'll be # 2. I was with him at two different times in his career.

"One, say that the No.1 shirt is for you. And a few years later, he was to be No. 2.

"And at that moment, he became a fantastic No. 2. His character is amazing."
