(Reuters) – The signing of Serbian striker Luka Jovic marks the beginning of a "new project" for Real Madrid as he looks to find his way back to victory next season. said Wednesday club president Florentino Perez.

Jovic, who comes from Frankfurt's Eintracht, is one of Real's three major rookies after an embarrbading campaign in which he did not win a trophy, sacked two coaches and finished 19 points against Barcelona La Liga.

"This is the start of a new project for next season," Perez told reporters before Jovic was introduced to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium supporters as a Madrid player.

"We know we have to work hard because the results are not what we expected.

"This club never gives up and we will prove it. It was unique and magical to win four Champions League titles in five years … but now we have the responsibility and the mission to return to victory.

Madrid has also recruited Belgian striker Eden Hazard in Chelsea and Brazilian defender Eder Militao in Porto, while left-back Frenchman Ferland Mendy would also be on his way to Olympique Lyonnais in the Spanish capital.

Jovic signed a six-year contract with Madrid after an impressive season with Eintracht, scoring 17 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches last season and 10 more in 14 Europa League games in the semi-finals.

"I'm the happiest guy in the world to have signed for such a big club," said the 21-year-old.

"I am very excited and sure that I made the right decision. I will give everything to help Real Madrid win more trophies and titles. "
