President Akufo-Addo wins African political leader of the year 2020

Ghana’s 2020 elections have been documented by many political scientists as the most controversial and bloodiest.

The election results reported by the returning officer to the president – Jean Mensa – confirm that John Mahama was unable to collect 50 votes plus one. The results show that John Mahama polled 6,214,889 while Nana Addo collected 6,730,413 votes.

The NDC opposition fiercely rejected the election results. John Mahama described it as flawed and rigged. Party supporters also protested at the Election Commission headquarters on several occasions against the results.

Political scientists at the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana argue that the formation of a parallel government is unconstitutional. Such acts can even trigger offenses of treason.
