Manchester United has released 12 players before the new season, but is in talks to retain Juan Mata.

The Premier League confirmed United's exit list, Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera being the two most prominent starts.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised a redesign of the squad this summer and started the process of cutting dead wood.

Mata has not been included on the list of releases, but has appeared on the chosen list, as the club hopes the midfielder will sign a new contract.
