Juergen Klopp will find "creative" solutions for pre-season absentees

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp admitted that he would have to "be creative at the system level" because he would miss several key players for much of the pre-season.

The Reds are kicking off their friendly pre-season games to third-place Tranmere Rovers tomorrow morning (Singapore time).

Striker Roberto Firmino and goalkeeper Alisson will be absent. They are on vacation after helping Brazil win the Copa America earlier this week.

Meanwhile, strikers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were involved in the Africa Cup of Nations, alongside midfielder Naby Keita, who aggravated the injury of the adductor muscle that excluded him from the final of the Champions League.

In addition, the calf injury of Xherdan Shaqiri means that he is absent for at least a few weeks.

Without Mane, Salah and Firmino not available, Liverpool will not have his first choice in first place, which will prompt Klopp to add Bobby Duncan and Paul Glatzel, 18 year olds, to his pre-season team, which does not count than 16 players from the first team. .

The German manager said: "Our offensive line from last year comes quite late to join us in pre-season so we need to be creative, system and all that, but there will be times when they (Glatzel and Duncan) have to play.

"Not only in Tranmere or elsewhere, but also in America, when we play against Borussia Dortmund and all the other guys."

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler said the absentees would be a "big problem" for the Reds.

In his article on the Sunday Mirror before the elimination of Egypt from the Africa Cup of Nations, the Brisbane Roar coach wrote: "It's pretty sad that the Copa America does not finish until July 7 because it means that Roberto Firmino and Alisson may not be back training until August.

"But it is foolish that the Africa Cup of Nations ends only after the third week of July."
