The 40th anniversary celebrations of the June 4th uprising will begin on Saturday, May 25th with a tree-planting exercise organized by executives and supporters of the revolution.
A conference will also be held on May 29, followed by a durbar to celebrate the celebrations of June 4, 2019 at the Nungua Traditional Authorities Park.
The theme of this year's celebration is "Developing a National Character for Sustainable Good Governance".
Tree planting exercise
The tree planting exercise that begins this Saturday at 6 am will take place from the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange to the Legon ECG Park. The exercise, which is open to the public, aims to celebrate the environmental credentials of the leader of the uprising, Lt Jerry John Rawlings. The former head of state should plant the first tree to start the exercise.
The series of indiscriminate tree cutting without the need to plant new ones has disastrous consequences for the climate. The exercise is to encourage Ghanaians to re-adopt tree planting as a way of life, to mitigate the effects of the cooler environment change.
Conference
On May 29, the Amegashie Lecture Hall of the Business School of the University of Ghana will host a lecture given by Professor John Bright Aheto, renowned management expert. Professor Aheto is the former dean of the School of
Company of Central University College and former Deputy Rector of the Institute of Management and Public Administration of Ghana. The conference will begin at 2 pm
Professor Aheto will speak about the theme of the celebrations, after which a panel of personalities consisting of personalities such as Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah, Professor Joshua Alabi, Professor John Gatsi, Dr. Deborah Cubagee and Goosie Tanoh will dissect the conference.
Durbar
Lt Rawlings and other influential members of the uprising and the December 31 Revolution will then address the culmination of the celebrations at the Nungua Traditional Authority Park on Tuesday, June 4th. The celebrations will begin at 8 am with a parade of young executives followed by the lighting of the perpetual flame before the traditional speech of the leader of the uprising.
