Jurgen Klopp predicts important role for Rhian Brewster, "talented" in Liverpool this season

Jurgen Klopp insisted that Rhian Brewster had an important role to play for Liverpool this season after the young man scored twice in the 6-0 win against Tranmere Rovers.

The highly rated 19-year-old started Liverpool's pre-game opening match against Prenton Park and was impressed by a decisive pbad and two confident finals before taking his revenge at half-time.

Brewster, who won the gold medal when the England U-17 team won the World Cup in 2017, suffered a nightmare after being away for 15 months due to a serious injury to ankle.

He finally regained form in April and Klopp hinted that he would compete with senior strikers Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi for a spot in the Liverpool attack after Daniel Sturridge left.

When asked if it would be a big season for Brewster, Klopp replied, "100%, but it also depends on him.

Divock Origi remains, of course, what is good news; Bobby Firmino is still there; Rhian Brewster is a great striker, an exceptional talent and I am really happy.

"I already told him, he plays an important role this year, but how important? Again, it depends on him and we'll see.

"He must also play in different positions because the center is OK, I think the wing is possible, then we will see how we can align .I am really sure that there will be opportunities for him . "

Brewster joined the Liverpool Academy in 2014 after spending six years at Chelsea and was rewarded for his progress on Merseyside by a five-year contract last June.

Injury problems have delayed Brewster's impact on the first team and, although he has not made his debut on the senior team yet, he was named to the bench for the thrilling 4 victory. -0 against Barcelona in May.

After the match, Brewster admitted that he was taking everything he had after a long period of inactivity.

"This year, I was hurt, I was here, watching boys play against Tranmere and this year I'm playing here," he said.

'It's crazy how much you can come in a year. I love every minute of pre-season. It's hard, do not get me wrong, but I'd rather be there than on the treatment bench.

"I take every moment as it comes in. It's great to be back."
