Jurgen Klopp salutes world-class Daniel Sturridge and world-class Alberto Moreno after announcing the departure of the Liverpool pair

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised "the great modern" Daniel Sturridge after the announcement of the attacker. Defender Alberto Moreno will leave Anfield this summer.

The club confirmed that the two men would leave at the end of their contract this summer.

Sturridge, 29, left Chelsea for Merseyside in January 2013 and scored 67 times in 160 games with the Reds.

Moreno, 26, joined the Reds in Seville in August 2014, playing 141 games for the Anfield club.

Klopp described the two men as "outstanding players," adding in a statement on the Liverpool website that all club members should say "thank you" for their efforts.

"They were there when I came in as a manager and during that time they helped establish us as a team that would go in the right direction. Without them, we would not be the team and club we are right now, "said the German coach, whose team defeated Tottenham in Madrid on Saturday, as both players were unused substitutes.

Sturridge's last appearance in Liverpool was a late replacement in the Champions League 4-0 semi-final win over Barcelona, ​​allowing the Reds a remarkable recovery.

Although the next destination of the English international remains to be seen, Klopp does not doubt the qualities of Sturridge.

Despite a limited playing time, the striker has scored four goals this season – including a brilliant effort in the 89th minute shortly after coming up against Chelsea in September 2018 to maintain Liverpool's Premier League record, without defeat.

Klopp said, "I think Daniel has earned the right to be considered a great modern day Liverpool.

"He came to the club while we were trying to rebuild and recover. Some of the goals he scored for Liverpool were so, so, so important.

"He is one of the best finishers I have ever seen in my life. It marks goals that you think could and should not be possible. "

Klopp also paid tribute to Sturridge's influence off the field. The boss of Liverpool said: "What is missing outside the club is the big leader Daniel in our locker room.
