Jurgen Klopp has slammed referee Andre Marriner and his officials for refusing to give Liverpool a penalty in their defeat at Southampton.
But the Reds boss is adamant the controversial decision cannot excuse a disappointing performance on his side.
Liverpool have now failed to win in their last three games after a second-minute goal from former striker Danny Ings sentenced them to a 1-0 defeat on the south coast on Monday.
The Premier League champions dominated possession in the second half but only managed one shot on target.
However, there were strong claims for a penalty when Gini Wijnaldum had a goal-related effort managed by Jack Stephens.
And Klopp was even more unfortunate that a subsequent challenge to Sadio Mane in the area by Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters went unpunished by officials.
“We had really good eyesight, and I turned to the fourth official and said ‘will you check it out?’ and he said “we already checked it, no penalty”, “said the Reds boss. “It’s 100% truth.
“Now someone wants to tell me how fast they got all the different angles, but they’ve already checked it 100%, no pen.
“We had times last year when we got the penalty against Leicester, (some people said) Sadio Mane was going easy.
“If this boy had failed easily, we would have had a penalty kick in the last game (against Newcastle).
“What Andre Marriner did with Sadio Mane tonight I’m not sure that’s right, to be honest.
“The boy has tried absolutely everything. There were also a lot of situations that should have been free kicks.

“The last situation when he falls, you see it back, he hits him with his left foot and that’s another penalty. But we can’t change that now.
Mane’s incident was no different from the penalty awarded to Paul Pogba which secured Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Friday, which brought them closer to the points as Liverpool played one game less.

And Klopp said: “I have now learned that Manchester United have had more penalties in two years when Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) is there than me in five and a half years. I don’t know if it’s my fault, I don’t know how it can happen.
“But that’s no excuse for tonight’s performance. This is something we can change, and this is where we are going to put all our efforts now. “
