Jurgen Klopp revealed that Rhian Brewster was going to have a major season in Liverpool after scoring two goals in his first preseason game.

The 19-year-old striker is highly rated at Anfield, but his path to the first team was blocked after a serious layoff that prevented him from entering for 18 months.

But he showed Klopp that he was ready to play a role for the Reds this season with two fine finishes against Tranmere.

Brewster hit for the first time after reacting well to Harry Wilson's center, before hitting a loose ball to add his second minute later.

Now, Klopp has admitted that Brewster's time may have been time.

Liverpool boss said: "100% [it is a big season] but it also depends on him.

Brewster reacts well to register his second goal at home

"Divock Origi remains what is good news, Bobby Firmino is still there.

"Rhian Brewster is a great striker, he is a great talent and I already told him that he had an important role to play this year, but its importance depends on him.

"He must also play at different positions – the center, the wing is possible, I think, we'll see how we align, but there will be opportunities for him, I'm sure."

The young man showed a real striker instinct with his two goals, poaching to finish both opportunities from inside the penalty area.

His strikes even led former Reds commentator Jason McAteer to make comparisons with legendary Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler.

Liverpool had shown no signs of summer spiderwebs, while they were taking the lead in the sixth minute to Prenton Park.

Nathaniel Clyne brought a shot from the edge of the box to open the score, before Brewster grabbed his corset.

The British international youth led the attacking streak with the return of players Ryan Kent and Wilson operating on the other side of the line.

Brewster was then replaced at half-time, with Klopp making 11 changes to his training.

Curtis Jones, Divock Origi and Bobby Duncan all added goals in the second half to complete the rout as the Merseyside club geared up for a flyer.
