Jurgen Klopp praised the "win-win situation" for the player and the club after Divock Origi signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool.
The remarkable turnaround of Anfield, aged 24, ended Wednesday afternoon, while the pen was written on new terms with the Reds.
Origi was becoming one of the stars of Klopp's first season in Merseyside before he seriously hurt his ankle against Everton in April 2016.
Since then, the Belgian had a disappointing loan period in Wolfsburg and a half-season on the bench at Anfield, but his fortune began to turn towards the end of 2018-19.
The recent winners against Everton and Newcastle and the crucial goals of the Champions League against Barcelona and Tottenham have allowed the striker to reinforce his legendary status at the end of the last campaign.
And Klopp is delighted to be able to continue working with a player who, he says, has an "important role" to play for the future.
"I really think it's a win-win situation. It's a story that only football can write, "said the German at Liverpoolfc.com.
"I have never forgotten the situation in the game of Everton [in 2016], to be honest, when there was this hard tackle and a red card for Mori Funes. Divock was in the best shape of his life and everyone was so optimistic about his future, then events like this happen in football.
"We always know that something like this can happen, but when you see that and the influence it has on a career, it's a very sad story because he struggled a long time with his ankle and stuff like that [and when] he came back the team was flying pretty much.
"It was not easy to get in and he could not trust himself and that kind of thing. On loan in Wolfsburg, it did not really work, coming back, thinking of leaving, then the season starts and yes, it's not a miracle, but it's the beautiful part of the story.
"He grew up and grew up, and during training, you could see him," Wow! As the center was not sure, he played a few games left. He played well there, it's obviously not his natural position, but he can play it in a very specific way, in a very offensive way.
"Then, at the training, you saw" OK, now he's ready for the No.9 ", he did it and scored the goals. This obviously helped, he scored goals incredibly important and we are there.
"We wanted to sign it again, to extend the contract, and the good thing was that he wanted it too. He realized that it was a difficult time [but] we never gave up at that time, [we never said] "OK, it will never work again", but sometimes, in football, we do not have enough time.
"Fortunately, we had enough time to wait until he was ready again. Now he is this great player again, so it's great to have him and I'm really happy with the signing.
"I'm pretty sure that he always felt that he was really important in this team and all the rest, so that's great. It's just a beautiful story and no one could have imagined it a year ago, and here we are.
"I think that, from an age point of view, it's an important contract for him and for us, it's an important role that he's going to play during the next season." . "
