Karpowership Ghana organized a mentorship program for thirty girls at Accra High School to mark International Women’s Day.
The ladies were guided through a variety of topics such as saving, overcoming peer pressure, and finding a goal.
School girls were also trained in how beads can be used to design bags, bracelets, shoes, necklaces, anklets, and other fashion accessories using beads.
The training is part of an initiative called the “Girl Power Project” to empower girl children as part of efforts to help achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.
Sandra Amarquaye, Corporate Communications Specialist at Karpowership Ghana, explained that the purpose of the training was to enable young girls to acquire additional professional skills.
“Karpowership is a strong promoter of the little girl. We believe in inspiring and empowering young women to dream. As part of the celebrations marking International Women’s Day this year, we have decided to organize this training program for women, ”Ms. Amarquaye said.
A senior researcher at the Science and Technology Policy Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ms. Justina Onumah, urged women not to settle for less and to stay focused on their dreams.
Some female Karpowership executives have also coached students on how to nurture a good career.
A beneficiary of the training, Esther Tagoe, said she will put her skills to good use in fundraising by producing fashion accessories for sale when school takes her vacation.
The school’s deputy headmaster, Mr. Prince Agortey, said the training would have a positive impact on the lives of girls.
He said; “We are grateful to Karpowership for this program as it matches the school’s vision. ”
Karpowership also donated some Covid-19 safety items to the school and urged students to continue practicing safety protocols.
