Agona Swedru’s Circuit Court granted bond of GH ¢ 200,000.00 with two sureties to a 40-year-old businessman, who allegedly duped the General Manager (CEO) of Lucky Herbal Clinic for the sum of 180 GH ¢ 000.00.

The accused, Augustine Aquah Mensah, also known as Paa Kwesi, pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraud by making false appearances contrary to section 131 of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (Bill 29).

The Court, chaired by Judge Alexander Owurae, adjourned the case until March 3, 2021.

Chief Inspector Yaw Buadu, the prosecutor, told the court that Dr Stephen Yeboah, who lives in Gomoa Oguaakrom, a community on the Winneba-Swedru road, was the complainant.

He said that in January 2016, the accused introduced himself to Dr Yeboah, as a businessman and also stepson of a certain Mr. Ebo Aidoo, his friend based in Canada.

The accused asked the complainant to give him 180,000 GH ¢ to clear certain goods that he had shipped from Canada to Ghana at the port of Tema.

The accused convinced the plaintiff to part with the money with the assurance that he would repay or give part of the property to pay off the debt.

However, the accused went into hiding after clearing the goods.

The prosecutor said the plaintiff issued two separate checks for GH ¢ 30,000,000 in October 2016 and GH ¢ 150,000.00 in January 2017 to Aquah Mensah.

Several efforts by the complainant to contact the accused in order to honor his promise have failed.

On November 19, 2020, the case was reported to the police by the complainant and on January 1, 2021, the accused was arrested from hiding.
