Evelyn Kani, mother of the second defendant, Nicholas Kwami Kani on trial for the alleged murder of the 10-year-old boy in Kasoa, refused to visit the son in the cells.

Speaking to JoyNews, the suspect’s grandfather, Noah Kani, said that despite calls for his daughter to be compassionate during these trying times, the mother maintained that she did not want to be associated to his son.

He said the 18-year-old’s conduct brought shame on the family.

“As for his [Nicholas’] mother, she says she can’t stand looking at her child. She is saddened by the situation.

“We were all hoping he would have a better future, but what he did is just shameful,” he said.

Nicholas Kani, 19, and Felix Nyarko, 15, are on trial for the murder of Ishmael Mensah Abdullah, 10, in Kasoa in April this year.

The two defendants appeared in Kaneshie District Court on Monday.

During the hearing, the first defendant revealed that he was also involved in the murder of a pregnant woman.

Although Felix Nyarko did not say when exactly they murdered the pregnant woman, he did say that the murder of Ismael Mensah Abdullah was not their first murder.

The minor told the court that Nicholas was his accomplice in this act.

“Myself [sic] and Nicholas have killed a pregnant woman in the past, but not in this case. We have already killed a pregnant woman. If Nicholas said he wouldn’t speak the truth, I will speak the truth, ”he told the court.

Felix said the agony that the ghost of Ishmael Abdullah put on him led him to confess to committing such vile acts.

Meanwhile, the duo’s attorney, Samuel Attuah, says the revelation came as a shock to him.

“The confession regarding the murder of the pregnant woman surprised me because I had a conference with them and told them that anything they said would be used against them, so they are free to say exactly what they know.

“But they didn’t mention to me that they had seriously committed such an offense, so it really came as a surprise,” he said.
