Kate: Collateral damage isn’t the first gaming tie we’ve seen for a Netflix original, but now that it’s getting into space in earnest, every title is a little different. Developed by Ludic Studios, the new game is an “action roguelike against time” that relates to the film Kate, a Netflix movie starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead about an assassin who has 24 hours to find the antidote to a poison that kills her.
The plot of the film makes the game’s time attack approach easy to understand as players take charge of the central character in its quest. As its Steam description reveals, players extend the length of each race by killing enemies to slow the constantly running out timer and gaining stimulating syringes that fully reset it.
The plot of the film also comes into play through your hostage-turned-companion Ani and its grimy neon-lit atmosphere. Unlike a previous game from Ludic Studios, Akane, Kate: Collateral damage leans on a 3??4 vue, but comparing their trailers shows why the Brazilian developer matched the content well.
Kate: Collateral damage is slated for release via Steam on October 22. There’s no price listed, but it doesn’t look like this game is tied to your subscription like the ones Netflix is testing on Android. Instead, like the Eden Unearthed App Lab that recently appeared on Oculus VR, it feels like a marketing link that could help. Kate stand out among a multitude of John wick-like action movies with female roles that have been popping up lately. Maybe we’ll find out more at the streamer’s Tudum fan event this weekend.
