Kathie Lee Gifford said goodbye to "Today" in her last appearance after 11 years on the program.
Gifford announced in December that she would leave the fourth hour and co-host Hoda Kotb to pursue other projects.
In the week leading up to his official departure, celebrities and Fans flooded the social media of the show with personal messages to the long-time host, who is known for drinking wine and offers candid comments on the show.
Gifford, a veteran of the "Live" group on ABC alongside Regis Philbin, and Kotb, a long-time reporter for "Dateline" on NBC News, were paired for the first time in 2008 as a seemingly strange couple, but are quickly become fan favorites.
"It should not have worked, it was a strange couple and everyone knows it," Kotb said in a NBC video on the couple's birthday. "You have an Egyptian journalist and a menopause was … who would ever put that together?"
In their last appearance together, Gifford explained that their partnership was at the heart of his success in the series.
"God has introduced Hoda into my life for all kinds of reasons," said Gifford. "I had to learn from her, she had to learn from me, we were supposed to share our life together."
After the announcement, Gifford told People that after the death of her husband, mother and children, she was no longer connected to New York, with the exception of of the show, after becoming "a widow, an orphan and an empty girl at a time."
The 65-year-old told the magazine she plans to move to Nashville to join close friends and continue her charity and theater activities.
Jenna Bush Hager will replace Gifford, as leaders hope to maintain the fun and fun chemistry of the fourth hour.
