The country needs to fight dengue fever, as at least 93 new cases have been reported in the last week in Kesh District in Baluchistan.

The District Health Officer (DHO) confirmed Sunday that the new cases had brought the number of reported cases to 243 in the last three weeks. According to information gathered from the district administration, no less than 12 cases were reported daily in Turbat, while three others had already lost the battle against the deadly disease.

DHO added that the administration was still waiting for special funds, requested by the provincial government, to control dengue fever. The anti-dengue spray was reportedly driven in homes in high-risk areas.

He also talked about launching an awareness campaign to help citizens protect themselves from this deadly disease.

The epidemic was expanded in Kech (Balochistan) on March 24, while more than 150 cases were reported from January.

DHO's Turbat claimed that at least 150 dengue cases had been reported since January, while three of the patients had lost their lives.

"Cases of dengue fever are reported daily in the region," the DHO added.

Efforts are under way to control the growing prevalence of the virus in Kech District.

Nearly six cases of dengue fever were reported this month in Lahore, Punjab, prompting the local government to take steps to immediately combat this rapidly spreading disease.

Dr. Zeeshan Zafar, Deputy District Manager, told media sources that the administration was closely monitoring all homes to eliminate breeding larvae, while adding that larvae had also been found in four houses in Pirwadahi, Rawalpindi.

The standard anti-dengue operative procedures would be implemented in the letter and in the spirit.

He then referred to the extension of surveillance to the city of Rawal to control the epidemic.
