President Akufo-Addo has sworn in to former database chairman Ken Ofori-Atta for a second term as finance minister.
This follows the verification and approval of Mr. Ofori-Atta as Minister of Finance.
Mr Ofori-Atta faced an unprecedented two-day check before the parliamentary appointments committee, after which the committee by consensus recommended its approval to the assembly.
In his speech during the swearing-in, President Akufo-Addo indicated that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s second appointment was influenced by the high level of competence demonstrated during his first term as Minister of Finance.
According to the president, Mr. Ofori-Atta helped revitalize the economy after the NPP administration inherited a failing economy from the Mahama administration during his first term.
“He steadfastly defended his record as finance minister from February 17, 2017, when he inherited a weak and faltering economy from the Mahama administration and helped put the economy back into good health on the 6th. January 2021.
“He highlighted what the public service means to him and described the plans he has to help revitalize the Ghanaian economy and restore it to the types of growth and expansion seen before the start of the Covid pandemic. -19 ”, he added.
Despite this, the President urged the Minister of Finance to continue working to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians, as this is the highest expectation of the Ghanaian people.
“I warmly congratulate you on your appointment and I am sure you know that the people of Ghana expect you to put the economy back on a solid footing.
“Ultimately, what the people of Ghana expect is a visible improvement in their standard of living; that there is an increase in the real rages of workers, an increase in the income of farms and fishermen, and an increase in corporate profits.
For his part, Mr. Ofori-Atta expressed his gratitude to the President for the confidence placed in him.
He also thanked Members of Parliament for ensuring its approval.
