Session of the Privilege Committee during Kennedy Agyapong 97 1Anas Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central

Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong tabled a motion in Parliament challenging his referral to the Privilege Committee.

Mr. Agyapong was referred to the committee for alleged incitement to violence against a TigerEye PI investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, in July 2018.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale was killed in January 2019 during a shootout near his home in Madina.

His death dragged Mr. Agyapong into the limelight after criticizing the MP for revealing the identity of the investigative journalist on public television in 2018. Mr. Agyapong sympathized with the family of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, but he stated that he was not sorry to show Suale's photos to the public and jeopardize his safety.

He distanced himself from Ahmed's death, saying he would not kill anyone who has no importance in his life.

Mr. Agyapong's lawyer, Alex Afenyo-Markin, said his client was asking for reconsideration of the referral.

They argued that the procedure for filing the application was improper and informed the Committee of the privileges of their concerns.

"The Honorable Kennedy Agyapong was of the view that the motion to refer his conduct to the Privileges Committee had not been properly moved. He therefore filed a motion to quash the referral request, "Afenyo-Markin told Citi News.

The committee deliberated on the matter "and came to the conclusion that the case was put on hold until the substantive motion was heard by the President," he added. .

Mr. Agyapong's arguments with the committee began when the chief minority bad, Muntaka Mubarak, was referred to the committee during a session of Parliament.

The two members exchanged insults Wednesday in the House and have almost engaged in a physical confrontation.

Mr. Agyapong requested an explanation as to why the minority chief bad had dragged him before the Privilege Committee following the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

This is the second time Mr. Agyapong has been referred to the committee after being referred to the Privilege Committee in June 2018 for allegedly calling the Parliament "useless".
