From August 5, 2021, the Parliamentary Privileges Committee will begin its public hearing on the contempt case brought before it against Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central.
The committee came to this conclusion after concluding a virtual meeting on Tuesday July 27, 2021, citinewsroom.com reports.
Tamale North MP Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, who is the plaintiff in this case, is expected to be the first witness to appear before the committee.
The outspoken Kennedy Agyapong courted the anger of many after allegedly threatening a journalist following the latter’s testimony before the commission of inquiry set up to investigate the unrest in Ejura.
It was reported that the lawmaker demanded that the journalist be beaten, prompting the journalist’s bosses to petition the Ghana Police Service on the matter.
In addition, the journalists’ parent body, the Ghana Journalists Association, questioned the MP for his similar comments which allegedly led to the murder of Ahmed Suale, an investigator for Anas Aremeyaw’s Tiger-Eye PI team. Anas.
Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, who was once Kennedy Agyapong’s lawyer when he appeared before the Privileges Committee, offered his support to his colleague, describing his comments as a slip of the tongue. .
“The media are not our enemy. We are not enemies of ourselves. Sometimes we slip, ”he said.
The sessions will take place at 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong denounced the Parliament bluff, saying he was not fazed if he was expelled for it and then lambasted Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini for reporting him to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee.
