Kenny Omega's signature Thursday with All Elite Wrestling was expected throughout the wrestling industry, but it still represented a major turning point in Omega's career and in the brief history of the new promotion of wrestling.
Omega has been the number one free agent in the wrestling world this year and previous years, and its signing with AEW represents a shift in power with respect to the world of non-WWE wrestling. The former heavyweight champion IWGP and the star of the New Japan Pro Wrestling have all played (no pun intended) with his friends Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and Adam Page in this new adventure.
Omega would have immediately rejected a more than generous offer from WWE and would seem to have never doubted the company it would sign with. As for Omega's future prospects with AEW, it seems extremely confident.
Omega sits with Fight Observe Radio to talk about the details of the deal, which is including Omega's biggest ever cash deal, while allowing him the freedom to seize work opportunities outside of the fight.
"I remember signing my first contract with New Japan and I was nervous, because it was like a two year work contract, it takes a lot of time, many things can change, "said Omega. "And now with AEW, I've been signing for 4 years, and I've never … it seemed natural to me.I did not feel nervous. It's a big contract for me, the most important thing i'm I signed but I do not feel like I'm making the wrong choice and it's cool to feel it
"The cool part too, it's like, with the contract, it leaves me very open for a ton of cross-over potential, which is always the most important thing for me because I do not necessarily want that we remember what i do in i want to be able to do my job with eSports, i will be able to do all kinds of things with ESPN and all that, some actor things.these opportunities now … there is no paperwork, it's in my contract where I can freely do them and pursue them, which is great. "
AEW's first event, Double Or Nothing, will take place May 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Omega is expected to face Chris Jericho at the show, a rematch of his fight at the NJPW WrestleKingdom last year at the Tokyo Dome.
