Suarez was injured in the ankle during Barcelona's 4-1 win over Real Betis in the Spanish Liga on Sunday night.
Medical tests have shown that the Uruguayan international would be absent for the next 10 to 15 days.
Boateng should take over in the absence of the former Liverpool shooter when the Blaugrana will face Espanyol in the Catalan derby after the international break.
Boateng was loaned by Italian Sbaduolo, an Italian loan, during the January transfer period to cover Suarez, although it was less presented than expected.
The Ghanaian international has only played two games for Barcelona. He was put in the lineup for the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey in Sevilla, while he was only participating at least a day before, since he was played for 63 minutes before being eliminated.
His only other match was played against Real Valladolid. He resumed the match but was removed at the hour of play. The 32-year-old scored no goals in both games.
While Boateng knew he had not been named to become a starter, he thought he might still have more minutes than him. The derby against Espanyol could provide a perfect opportunity for the former Las Palmas striker to show that he still has value for Valverde as the Blaugrana enter the final leg of the season.
