Khabib Nurmagomedov said that the death of Maxim Dadashev had earned him "hate the sport in which we were fighting."
Dadashev died Tuesday, four days after suffering a brain injury when he lost his stop on Subriel Matias at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill on Friday.
Dadashev's corner threw the sponge in the 11th round. He was then taken to the hospital but never recovered.
"This case proves once again that sport is not the most important thing, there are things that are even more important," said Nurmagomedov, world champion lightweight undefeated, in a article posted on Instagram, Thursday.
Two days after the death of Dadashev, Argentine boxer Hugo Santillan died of injuries suffered during a fight last weekend.
"Whenever I see or hear such news, I begin to hate the sport in which we fight," Nurmagomedov said. "Everything is temporary, fame, money, titles, and all our life, we all leave this world, nobody will stay."
