Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira did not go to Atletico Madrid in his first leg of the last 16 Champions League finals, as medical exams revealed irregular hearts, announced Tuesday the leaders of Serie A.

MADRID: Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira has not traveled with his team in the first leg of the last 16 Champions League matches at Atletico Madrid, as medical examinations revealed that He had an irregular heartbeat, the leaders of Serie A announced Tuesday.

"Sami Khedira stayed in Turin for medical examinations, after which an electrophysiological study was performed and he was treated for atrial fibrillation," the club's statement said.

The German international Khedira, aged 31 and part of the team that won the 2014 World Cup, had trained Tuesday before his team flew to Madrid to Wednesday's match destination at Wanda Metropolitano.

Juventus coach Mbadimiliano Allegri said at a press conference that Khedira had not traveled with the team, but had not explained why he was stayed in Turin.
