The West Region Police Command warned the general public and the media to refrain from spreading false stories of kidnappings.
The warning follows what they describe as a useless creation of tension and an heightened sense of insecurity in the region.
Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, DSP of the Western Regional Police, told Joy News that four alleged abductions had been reported this weekend and over the weekend.
"We registered four cases, but fortunately it was not really kidnapping but people who left their homes without informing their families," she said.
According to the DSP, Olivia Adiku had her first case in Kwesimintsim, where a 25-year-old lady, MAAME Darkowa Anoma, left home on January 14 without informing anyone.
On January 19, his father came to the police in Kwesimintism and reported that she had not been seen for a few days and he suspects that she has been kidnapped.
"But luckily, on Saturday, he came with her to the train station and she said she had a problem with the family. She went to Accra looking for a job without informing her parents.
"She unfortunately lost her phone when she arrived in Accra," she said.
DSP Adiku referred to another case where a mother had beaten her child because the money she had brought back after selling water was not fair. The girl ran away from home and was found Sunday.
"On Sunday around 10 pm, a good Samaritan saw and wandered around and questioned her, but she could not give a concrete answer and the family then came to identify her. She said.
The third case, according to officer PRO, occurred on Sunday morning when an Abigail Asiedu, living in Kojokrom, was reportedly kidnapped but it turns out that she went to visit her boyfriend in Inchaban Nkwanta.
The fourth case she explained was in Tarkwa, where a girl was reportedly kidnapped but later found with her boyfriend.
She also explained that a civilian was almost a mob in Ahenkofi, a suburb of Kojokrom, in the western region, Sunday, when residents suspected him of being one of the kidnappers. from the Evergreen Hotel.
DSP Adiku has launched an appeal to the public and the general public engaging in the practice of spreading lies to abandon them.
