Deputy Minister of Defense Major Derrick Oduro
Deputy Defense Minister Major Derrick Oduro likened Ghana to paradise with regard to kidnappings in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and other parts of the world.
When the majority of Ghanaians were panicked about the recent wave of kidnappings in the country, the highest-ranking member of the Parliament's Defense and Interior Committee described Ghana as paradise in terms of the number of kidnappings in other parts of the world.
According to him, Ghana is not close to the number of kidnappings registered in some countries, citing Nigeria with about 250 kidnappings a day, while Kenya also records 5 kidnappings a day.
The Nkoranza North MP noted that Nigeria recorded 10 to 20 kidnappings every hour.
The Deputy Defense Minister attributed the series of kidnappings that Ghana faces to new crimes in the world.
In an interview with Asempa FM and monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he said: "Ghana is being kidnapped for emerging crimes, and about 250 to 300 people are kidnapped every day in Nigeria. many attacks, other countries record a considerable number of kidnappings, ours is a small number, Ghana is a paradise for kidnappings.
Although Ghana does not have open confrontations with terrorist groups, it is possible that they will not spare it if security is released, calling on Ghanaians to exercise restraint as security forces attempt to fight against kidnappings.
