You can consider that all the players of the most talented method of all time have created a precedent that most actors could never respect. All the big names, from Marlon Brando to Meryl Streep, demanded perfection in their acting roles and generally felt that they could never meet their personal standards.
British actors often respect these standards more than modern American actors. One of those you may not have thought was like this is Kit Harington's Game of thrones.
As popular as his role as Jon Snow is, Harington recently claimed he was never satisfied with many of his scenes. Is he right or is he just an obsessive actor?
Trying to properly portray the ever complex Jon Snow
The proof of the gravity of his role in Harington comes from a recent and very insightful interview he has done for Variety. The interview was done as a kind of swan song to Game of thrones because he starts his last season in April. In this play, we learn that Harington has always found it difficult to play Snow because of the symbolism he brings as the moral center of the series.
Another thing that he reveals in the interview is that he's watching every episode of Eu by himself so that he can study his acting technique. He says that he thinks he did not get things done 70% of the time and wants to be able to shoot another shot on all the other scenes.
Even though it may seem like a typical artist criticizing his own work, keep in mind the director of Eu Harington was pleased to have acted as "formidable".
Is Harington right to talk about his role or is he just modest?
For any non-actor, it is clear that he does more than anyone expects an actor to make Jon Snow one of the most complex characters in television history.
For Harington, it seems that his perspective on his performance has evolved over time. Back in 2015, it was noted for saying the act on Eu did not feel like work. As each season has become more complex, you can see how an actor like him would begin to feel like climbing a mountain doing justice to his character.
More likely, Harington felt self-critical because of the higher expectations expected by fans each season. Moreover, since his work schedule is rather exhausting, it is possible that Harington lost his playing time by being tired. This would have been perceptible only by him rather than by an average spectator.
Having this state of mind as an actor could, however, be complicated when working on future projects.
Will the expectation of perfection of Harington be detrimental to the future?
We find it refreshing to see an actor bring a total commitment to a role, which becomes a less standard artistic choice. Even the great actor Robert De Niro method has probably become a little more lazy in an actor approach, which is understandable given the amount of energy needed.
A unique thing about Harington is Eu was his first acting concert at the age of 24. Working on this series is his life for eight years. The films are sort of sporadic since 2012, but gave him a glimpse of what he could do later in the film.
Set too high expectations for you as an actor after being in Eu could be disappointed if he was faced with the problem of type conversion. Again, Harington has already changed appearance once the shoot is over, so he may be able to reset his character.
Hope he can win award-winning roles
Other than the recently published How to train your dragon: the hidden world, Harington does not seem to have anything immediately aligned like a Eu to follow.
Casting is a concern, but we do not doubt that he will be able to make the transition. Being British and having an official acting background means that we will probably see Harington among the distinguished people in the future.
If this is a role in which nobody recognizes it, the film industry can finally realize that it is a chameleon and that it is very methodical in its game.
