Otumfuo KNUST1 Pol Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu set up a committee to investigate student riots at KNUST

Alumni of University Hall, Katanga and Unity Halls of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) announced their unwavering support for the committee set up to investigate the circumstances that led to the student riots in November. October 2018.

"We are ready to provide the KATANGA Alumni with whatever support the committee may require," said Alumni President Charles Dontoh in a statement to Kwabena Danso-Dapaah.

KNUST Vice Chancellor Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has appointed a retired Supreme Court Justice, Judge Ladyship, Rose Owusu, to chair a three-member committee charged with investigating the riot of some students.

"The Elders sincerely welcome this announcement and sincerely thank Otumfuo Osei Tutu for delivering on its promise and leadership on this issue," said Charles Dontoh.

"We hope that this committee of seasoned professionals will make effective recommendations to prevent future instances of problems that have contributed to unfortunate incidents"

The Asante monarch, who is also Chancellor of the University, announced the development of the KNUST special congregation for postgraduate students.

"Help us chart a course in a future that will not make us repeat the embarrbading episode." Otumfour Osei Tutu told committee members.

He badured that the committee will be independent and will have the freedom to do its job without any interference.

Asantehene therefore urged Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, not to take unilateral decisions on university matters but to consult the members of the convocation at all times.
