The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council ordered the students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), except foreign students and those authorized by the administration, to vacate the school premises by noon on Friday September 17th.

According to the Security Council, it has gathered information that some groups of unruly students are forecasting unrest on campus on the eve of the holidays, hence the directive.

A statement signed by Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah noted that security personnel will be visibly stationed on the university campus to ensure peace and security and prevent unruly behavior from any group of students.

He reminded the student body that the declaration of the University Campus as a safe zone in November 2018, is still in effect, and therefore, it is an offense to engage in a demonstration exercise in the safe zone.

The Regional Security Council advised students to concentrate on their studies and complete their programs without any distractions.

“However, if the students decide to misbehave and engage in acts of indiscipline and criminality, they will be treated according to the law. Any student who breaks the law, with an offense bordering on delinquency, will see a criminal investigation opened against him and prosecuted in a competent court.

“Acts of indiscipline and vandalism will no longer be tolerated at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,” he warned.

The regional minister further urged parents and guardians to warn their wards against any involvement in despicable acts.

Recently, several cases of indiscipline have been reported among students at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Among these acts of indiscipline is the existing and unhealthy rivalry between University Hall and Unity Hall, which leads to acts of vandalism.

One of them is the incident which performed at KNUST Great Hall on July 3, 2021.
