(Reuters) – Erwin Koeman has succeeded fellow Pim Verbeek as head coach of Oman, said the country's football badociation.
Verbeek left his post for personal reasons after leading Oman to the Asian Cup Round of 16 for the first time last month. He also led them to victory in the Gulf Cup in early 2018.
Koeman previously held the position of head coach of the Hungarian national team and badistant coach of his brother Ronald in his matches with the English Premier League clubs Southampton and Everton.
Local media reported that the 57-year-old had signed a two-year contract to drive Oman to the World Cup finals for the first time in 2022.
