Dr. Kofi Amoah Nice Dr. Amoah heads the Standards Committee

The standardization committee of FIFA, in its current form, will not be after March 31, learned Joy Sports.

The work of the four-member standardization committee set up last September to oversee the reform of Ghana's football 31 has not been completed, leading to a request for extension of their mandate.

This request will be accepted, but with a warning.

Dr. Kofi Amoah, the current chair of the committee, will remain in a newly reconstituted body. Ms. Lucy Quist, Naa Odofoley Nortey and Samuel Osei Kuffour (who replaced Dua Adonteng a few weeks ago) will see the end of their term.

Joy Sports understands that the path to this process will begin this week when a Fifa Task Force will fly to Accra. On the agenda, an badessment of the work of the standardization committee up to now, corruption in football in general and the way forward.

It is also understood that the working group, which will report its dissatisfaction with the pace of work so far, must ensure that the roadmap for Ghana's football reform will be clearly agreed upon.

This roadmap will be

– Confirm that an extension of 30 September has been agreed
– have a clear framework and schedule
– Confirm the constitution of the new team

Who composes the new team?

Joy Sports understands that FIFA will be more involved in the group that will reform Ghanaian football over the next six months. There will be at least four members: two Fifa consultants, a representative of the Government of Ghana and Dr. Kofi Amoah himself. Another official will play the role of group secretary. Depending on the state of play, a representative of the African Football Confederation may be appointed.

How we got here

FIFA announced the creation of the Standards Committee on September 13, 2018, with the mission of revising the statutes of the Ghana Football Federation, holding elections and managing the day-to-day affairs of the country's football governing body.

This came after the Ghana government ended the liquidation of the Football Association and FIFA's decision to end the suspension of the AF. All of this happened after Anas Aremeyaw Anas' documentary number 12, which uncovered mbadive corruption in national football.

However, the mandate of the Standards Committee was fraught with difficulties: members had problems communicating with the media, several contradictions along the chain of communication, and difficulties in establishing relations with the clubs. Premier League.

It can be argued that the main stumbling block is the organization's inability to do its most important job: reorganize the GFA statutes and hold elections for a new football administration.

The committee also planned to introduce a football tournament to occupy the men's football clubs, which it named Special Competition of the Standards Committee. This has never happened.

However, a women's version was launched two weeks ago, which is CN's biggest achievement. CN can point to another achievement – although this was not at the heart of its mandate – was the creation of six ad hoc committees to come up with ideas for managing football.
